Province of Cavite
Cavite is a province of the Philippines located in the CALABARZON region on the southern shores of Manila Bay. It is one of the most industrialized and fastest-growing provinces in the country. Cavite played a central role in the Philippine Revolution, with the Declaration of Independence on June 12, 1898, in Kawit. Historically, Cavite City hosted docks for the Manila galleon, serving as a vital hub for trade between Asia and Latin America.
History
The present-day Cavite City was once a mooring place for Chinese junks trading with Manila Bay settlements. Known as 'Tangway' in pre-colonial times, archaeological evidence shows prehistoric habitation along its coasts. Under Spanish rule, Cavite became significant for its shipyards and as a center of the Manila galleon trade. The province was the birthplace of the Philippine Revolution, culminating in the Declaration of Independence in Kawit on June 12, 1898.
