History
Lanao del Norte was originally part of the larger Lanao province, established during the American colonial period in the early 20th century. Inhabited predominantly by the Maranao people, the area developed through farming, fishing, and crafts. It officially became a separate province on May 22, 1959, through Republic Act No. 2228, with Tubod as its capital. The province faced challenges from Moro insurgencies in the late 20th century but has since developed agriculture, livestock, fishing, eco-tourism, and infrastructure, leveraging its strategic coastal position for trade and cultural exchanges.
